Born: August 4, 1852
Died: August 31, 1927

Fred F. Faringer, son of Henry and Lydia Faringer, was born at Lena, Illinois, August 4, 1852, died August 31, 1927, at the age of 65 years and 27 days.

After attending the public schools in his community he went to Mt. Morris and Dixon College for his higher training. Afterwards he taught school for two years. On December 28, 1886, he was united in marriage with Idella Howard at Lens, Illinois. This union was blessed with two children, Melinda and Earl. The former, Mrs. A.E. Schwenk, died in January, 1917. In the fall of 1887 Mr. and Mrs. Faringer moved from Illinois to the home farm, located northwest of Ireton, on which they lived until 1918 when they moved to Ireton.

Besides his widow and son Earl, six grandchildren mourn his loss, also four brothers, D.A. of Saskatchewan, Canada; W.H. of Home Garden, California; I.A. of Alameda, California; and Lee D. of Stockton, Illinois.

The funeral service was held in the Methodist Episcopal Church Saturday afternoon, September 3rd, at 2:30 o’clock. The service was attended by a vast assembly, composed of mourning relatives and grief stricken and sympathetic friends and neighbors. The profusion of flowers bore mute but eloquent testimony of high esteem in which the deceased was held. The artistic arrangement of the flowers seemed to transform the chanel of the church into a beautiful garden made radiant with flowers, ferns and creeping vines.

The music of the service was rendered by the following friends of the family: Mrs. L.D. Satterlee, Miss Mabel Reid, Mrs. George Campbell, Mr. J.R. Coons, Mr. Ben Bey and Mrs. Raymond Steele, who presided at the piano.

The service was in charge of William P. Webb, pastor of the church, who, for his afternoon sermon made use of the scripture text, I Thess. IV: 17. “So shall we be forever with the Lord.” The minister stated that the Master’s conception of death was the beautiful idea of going home to be with the Father, to be in the midst of heavenly joys for eternity. Two words in particular were emphasized in the discourse. In the use of the pronoun “We” Paul included all the living followers of Jesus in the world today, together with all who have fallen asleep in the faith of His Holy Name. Paul else refers to this group as a family, part of which has crossed the river of death and part of which still sojourn in the world. The family’s foundation Whose Builder and Maker of God. The “Forever” represents the saint’s duration in that state of felicity.

Mr. Faringer united with the Church of God, at Mount Joy, north of Ireton, and on September 15, 1907, transferred his membership to the Methodist Episcopal Church of Ireton.

Those who acted as pall bearers were, Fred Schuette, H.L. Vande Water, Philip Walker, J.W. Bushby, Weaver Karr and M.O. Simons.

Those who were present from out of the state were: Lee D. Faringer, brother of the deceased, Stockton, Illinois; Mrs. Ida Faringer, Lena, Illinois; Reverend A. E. Schwenck and sons Lloyd and Earl and daughter Evelyn, Rapid City, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Will Eisenhower of Kent, Illinois.
