Harold F. Kleinhans was born on May 23, 1934, in Akron, Iowa, to Fred and Ella (Meether) Kleinhans.  He was raised in Union County, South Dakota, where he attended rural country schools.  He graduated from Alcester High School in 1952.  Harold farmed with his father specializing in dairy for many years.
Harold married Waverly Wells of Canton, South Dakota, on June 5, 1955.  Their wedding was the first wedding at the new Bethany Lutheran Church in Fairview, South Dakota.  He has been a member of Hawarden American Lutheran Church for many years and served on church council many times.  Harold and Waverly moved to Alcester, South Dakota, in 2012.  He was very proud of his home in town.
Harold loved his family, friends, farm, and faith.  He always loved his dairy cows and other animals, especially dogs and chickens. He was still helping his son moving hay bales.  He said sitting in the tractor made him feel like he was 21 again.
Harold is survived by his wife, Waverly, daughter, Rhonda (Arden) Wiksen of rural Hawarden, son, Brad (Shirley) Kleinhans of rural Hawarden, and daughter, Lisa (Rolf) Muldbakken of Sioux Falls.   He had seven grandchildren, Greg (Marissa) Kleinhans, Megan (Michael) Weber, Hailey (Steve) Olson, Rachel (Bryan) Palmer, Blake Muldbakken, Wade (Sadie) Wiksen, and John (Stephanie) Wiksen; and five great grandchildren, with one on the way!
