August 17, 1919 Alton Democrat

The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz N. Bamberg were grieved to hear of the death of little Matthew at the sanitarium at Worthington Friday August 15th where he and his mother Mrs. Bamberg had gone some week before in the hope that this health might there be regained. The case was on that baffled the medical men at Sioux City, LeMars and Rochester. But was thought to be a brain after effect of influenza. Great hopes were held to the parents of his ultimate recovery as his mind kept clear with the same unchanged love for childish pleasures and ambition to take part in family interests. His condition improved at the sanitarium during the first few weeks and there was belief that he was gradually improving.

Mr. and Mrs. Bamberg returned Saturday with the remains and the funeral was held Monday at St. Mary’s church. A number of friends were in were in attendance from out of town as listed. (Rest of article was illegible.)
