From the Rock Valley Bee, December 10, 1920:

DEATH OF MRS. RENSHAW

Mrs. Persis Ann Renshaw died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. K. Hastings, Nov. 30, 1920, at the advanced age of eighty-six years two months and twenty-nine days, her death being due mostly to the natural decline of old age. She had been failing for several weeks past, and her death, although expected at any time since she began to fail, was nevertheless a great shock to her children.

The subject of this sketch was born at West Port, Essex County, N.Y., Sept. 1, 1834, where she received her early education and grew to womanhood. When she was a young woman she came with her parents to Clayton County, Iowa, where she taught school for some time.

On May 1, 1855, she was united in marriage to D. L. Renshaw. To this union were born eleven children. Two of whom died in infancy[;] three others, Wilber of Rock Valley, Clarence of Inwood and Dr. Leslie L. of Monona, Iowa, passed away after reaching manhood. The children are Herbert of Inwood, Eustace of Medford, Oregon, Mrs. W. C. Leonard of Cedar Rapids, Ia., Mrs. H. K. Hastings of Rock Valley, Frank L. of Wanatchee, Washington, and Dr. Carroll W. of Waterloo, Ia. All were present at the funeral except Eustace of Medford, Oregon. Her husband, D. L. Renshaw, preceded her in death a little over two years ago.

The family moved from Clayton County to Sioux County in 1884, and settled on a farm near Rock Valley where they resided until 1891 when they moved to Rock Valley and resided here until death claimed them.

Mrs. Renshaw was a woman of beautiful Christian character. She became a member of the Baptist Church when she was a young woman and was a faithful member of that church until she came to Iowa when she united with the Methodist church and remained a consistent member all her life. She was a model Christian wife and mother, and possessed the finest characteristics of Christian motherhood, which were ever reflected in the rearing and training of her large family of children. Her life was a life of Loyalty to her husband and true devotion to her children. Truly a worthy and honorable mother whose example was of the finest kind.

Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T. S. Bostick of the Methodist church, and the remains were taken to Valley View Cemetery for burial.

An obituary with basically the same information and several complimentary comments was published in the Alton Democrat, Rock Valley news (December 11). It gives her maiden name as Angrier; says that for many years her eyesight was defective and caused her much trouble and inconvenience; and characterizes her as affable, kind, considerate and companionable.

Her husband's obituary (posted separately) gives his full name as David L. Renshaw and her maiden name as Angier.
