R. J. Ballard Dead
The news received in Hull last, week of the serious illness of R. J. Ballard formerly of this place but now of Long Beach, California, was followed shortly by a telegram announcing his death and the instructions that the remains would be shipped here for burial.

The Ballards have many friends here and the news is a severe shock to all, and sincere sympathy is extended to the surviving wife and son Charles. The funeral will be held this Friday afternoon, servicess only at the cemetery.
OBITUARY
Reuben J. Ballard passed away at his home Tuesday June 19th after an illness of two weeks. He was born in New York State May 15, 1836 when eighteen years of age he moved with his parents to Wayne, Illinois, and was employed in a hotel in Elgin a short [ time, then took up farming;. He was married at the time of the Civil War to Mary Adelaide Barry, March 15, 1864. Four children were born to this union Charles H., Kittie L., Jennie M. and Ebenezor A. Charles, the only child living is a resident of Long Beach California.

He spent several years farming in Illinois then moved to Iowa for a short time. He took up government land in Kansas and after farming there several years they returned to Chicago where he was employed by the City Railway Co. The then moved to Iowa and lived on their farm near Hull until the boys were called to take up their own life work.
