Mrs. Fred Slob, nee Vande Steeg, passed away at her home at Orange City on Thursday March 28th. She had suffered with a weak heart for a number of years. She took cold about two weeks before her death which developed into bronchitis and other complications. Deceased was born in the Netherlands and May twenty-fifth 1857 and that same year came with her parents to America who located in Pella. In the spring of 1870 the family moved to Sioux county and located on a farm two miles north of Orange City In 1881 she was united in marriage with Fred Slob. The ceremony was performed at Orange City by Rev. Buursma. This union was blessed with five children four of whom are living. The husband of the deceased passed away in 1897. The funeral services were held from the American Reformed church on Monday April 1st and were conducted by Rev. David McEwan. The funeral was largely attended. Interment was made in the Orange City cemetery. Deceased is survived by two sons and two daughters--Gerrit J. cashier of the Northwestern State Bank, Frederick, who attends the State University, Helen at home and Coba who teaches in the vicinity of Carnes. She is also survived by three sisters---Mrs. H.J. Vande Waa of Orange City, Mrs. Gerrit Beyer of Orange City and Mrs. M.E. Lewis of Moscow Idaho and two brothers--John Vande Steeg and G.L. Vande Steeg. Mr. and Mrs. G.T. Vande Steeg of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. John Rhynsburger of Pella and Mr. and Mrs. L. Vande Steeg of LeMars attended the funeral.
