SUCCUMBS AFTER LONG ILLNESS

John Eulberg died Wednesday at 12:30 at his home after a long and lingering illness of much pain and suffering, the cause being cancer of the stomach. All that the most skilled and experienced surgeons and doctors could do was done but in vain.

The deceased was born in Assen, Nassau, Germany on July 14, 1859. When he was twenty-four years of age, he came to the United States and first settled in Springbrook near Bellevue, Iowa. In the fall of 1883, he came to Alton where he worked as a carpenter for ten years, having worked at the carpenter trade for five years in Germany. From there he came to Granville and engaged in business and has been actively interested in business since, being at the time of his death the proprietor of Granville's Moving Picture Theater. He also operated a saloon for many years.

John was married on March 25, 1889, at this place to Miss Margaret Moos, who died about one year and three months ago. To this union, seven children were born, six surviving, they are: Peter, Kathryn, Mrs. Marie Cook, Henry, Edward and Adam all of whom have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad affliction. He has one sister living in Germany. Mr. Eulberg was a kind and loving father and a genial and well liked citizen.

Accompanying the remains in a body was the Luxemburger Bruderbund of America, made up of the members of Hospers, Alton, Remsen and Granville, of which the deceased was a member. Funeral services were conducted at St. Joseph's Church with Reverend Achatz officiating. The remains were laid to rest beside his wife in the Church Cemetery.
