From the Rock Valley Bee, August 6, 1920:

DEATH OF GOTLIEB BAUDER

Gotlieb Bauder died at his home in Rock Valley Thursday, July 29, at the advanced age of 78 years, 7 months and 22 days.

The subject of this sketch was bon in Bern, Switzerland, Dec. 7, 1841, where he received his early training and grew to manhood. He came to this country in May 1865, and lived in Fayette County near Elgin, Iowa, until 1890 when he moved with his family to Sioux County and lived on a farm in Garfield township until the spring of 1919 when he moved to Rock Valley where he resided until the time of his death.

He was united in marriage July 6, 1868, to Selma Jacob. To this union seven children were born, three girls and four boys, Mrs. John Miller, Mrs. Fred Miller, and Mrs. Fred A. Miller, and John and Fred Bauder, of Rock Valley and Will and George of Hot Springs, Ark. Besides his children he leaves to mourn his wife, two brothers and three sisters, twenty-five grand children and one great grand child.

Short funeral services were held at the late home of the deceased and at the German Lutheran Church south of Rock Valley Saturday afternoon, the services being in charge of Rev. Gillmann, and the remains were taken to the German Lutheran Cemetery for burial. Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Ben Schori of Elgin, Iowa, a sister of the deceased, and Will Weihe of Postville, Iowa, a nephew. Six grand children of the deceased acted as pall bearers.

Mr. Bauder was a man who was highly thought of by all who knew him. He was a kind husband and father and an obliging neighbor and was always a useful man in the community where he lived. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of many friends in their great sorrow.

A similar obituary was published in the Alton Democrat, August 7, 1920: Rock Valley news, with some variant data. It spells his forename Gottlieb. It says that he located at Elgin, Iowa, July 6, 1866 (having come to America in 1865). It gives his wife's name as Miss Salma Jacobs.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has him as Goettlieb Bauder, buried in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, rural Sioux Center, IA. His wife's name is given in the index as Salone Bauder; her obituary (posted separately) gives her name as Sally (Jacob).
