John Broek Killed In Car-Tractor Crash Saturday

John B. Broek, 43, well known Sioux Center farmer, was killed instantly about 6 p.m. Saturday when a tractor he was driving was struck in the rear by a car driven by Roger Moerman, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Moerman of Carmel. Sheriff Harry Dykstra and Patrolman Tom Chandler of Rock Rapids investigated the accident.

Both tractor and car were traveling north up a slight grade. The tractor was carrying a mounted plow. The car went up over the plow after the impact, according to the Sheriff, hit the tractor's left rear wheel, and then went into the ditch. The accident happened about 100 yards from the Broek farm driveway. Young Moerman escaped serious injury but was admitted to the Sioux Center hospital in a state of shock.

Funeral services for Mr. Broek were held Tuesday at Bethel Cristian Reformed Church which he served as deacon, and burial was in the Sioux Center Community Cemetery.

Mr. Broek was born September 30, 1922 at Sioux Center. He married Noreen Roorda February 26, 1949 at Sheldon.

Survivors include the widow, two sons, Kevin Jay, 7 and James 1; a daughter, Arnola Ruth, 3; mother, Mrs. William Broek of Sioux Center; three brothers, Marion, Albert and Donald, all of Sioux Center; two sisters, Mrs. Arnold Feekes and Mrs. John B. Van Voorst, Sioux Center.
