Alton Democrat March 16, 1912

Knut Roseland, one of the gang working on the Northwestern telegraph line, fell from a twenty foot pole last Saturday shortly before noon and died on Tuesday. The accident occurred about two miles east of town. He was up on a pole taking off the wires which were being strung on new poles. The supposition is that the point In his climber broke out of the old pole and he fell backward lighting on his head. It rendered him unconscious and he was taken to the Maplewood hotel and Dr. Gleysteen was called. As Dr. Gleysteen was out in the country, Mrs. L. N, Bamberg, graduate nurse, acted in this emergency and attended the injured man until the doctor arrived.

Roseland was taken to Sioux City on Monday. His skull was not fractured and the operation showed
that the brain tissue had been torn and there was no hope for the poor man. He died on Tuesday. Knut Roseland was a single man about thirty years of age. A brother of his was employed on the same gang and a sister reside at Sioux Rapids.
