Funeral services for Mrs. George Bowers, 67, Alton, were held at 10 A.M. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rosary was said at 3 P.M. and 8 P.M. Friday at the Church.

Mrs. Bowers died Wednesday at her home after a five-day illness. She was born April 29, 1898, near Alton. The former, Clara Wathier, she was married to George E. Bowers August 12, 1919. She lived in the Alton area all her life.

She was a charter member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a former officer in the St. Mary’s Rosary Society.

Mrs. George E. Bowers, nee Clara Wathier, died unexpectedly at her home Wednesday shortly before 7:00 A.M. after a few days illness from which she appeared to be recovering.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Rosary will be said at 3:00 P.M. Friday afternoon and 8:00 in the evening at St. Mary’s Parish Center. Van Etten Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was nearly 68 years old.

Mrs. Bowers is the wife of the co-publisher George E. Bowers of The Democrat.
