John Bertus Braskamp was born March 10, 1871 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. At the age of eleven, in 1882, he came to America with his parents, and they located in Alton. He lived here for more than 64 years, and was employed by the railroad company for 35 years. He had charge of the pump station until about five years ago when he retired.

Mr. Braskamp had been in failing health for some time, and had suffered several heart attacks. He died suddenly Sunday morning, December 8, of a blood clot near the heart. He was 76 years old.

April 23, 1923 he was united in marriage to Carrie Hanson of Canton, South Dakota. She survives him, as also two sisters, Miss Marie Braskamp of Alton and Mrs. John Niewhuis, formerly of Hospers but now of Mission, Texas and Will Braskamp of Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Funeral services were held this Wednesday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church, with Reverend H. Eggink officiating.
