Mrs. Janneka Brandsma died at the hospital in Hull Sunday evening at 6:00 o'clock, from inflammation of the bowels. Although she had not been in good health for six months or more, she was not taken seriously ill until about two weeks, before her death.

She was taken to the hospital at Hull Saturday for an operation which seemed to offer the only hope for her recovery, but she was not able to withstand the operation, and passed away Sunday evening as above stated.

The subject of this sketch born in Holland, December 19, 1840, and had reached the advanced age of eighty-one years, four months and eighteen days. The greater part her life was spent in her native land, Holland. She was married in 1860 to Abe J. Brandsma who preceded her in death about two years ago. With her husband and children, Mrs. Brandsma immigrated to this country in 1880. They first located at Alton, Iowa, where they lived a about six years, and then moved to this vicinity where Mrs. Brandsma had lived for the past thirty years.

Besides other relatives, she leaves six children, four sons and two daughters: George Brandsma, lives in the old country; Dick, of Rock Valley; John, of Egan, South Dakota, Babe, of Ware, Iowa; Mrs. DeJong who is still in Holland; and Mrs. Fox of Rock Valley.

Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 p. m. Monday and at the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley at 2:00 o'clock. Mrs. Brandsma was a woman who was highly respected by all who knew her. She was a woman of good Christian Character, was kind and helpful in the home, and she will be greatly missed by her bereaved relatives.
