Funeral services for John Dirksen, 76, who died at his home at Sanborn Monday, October 13, were held last Friday at Sanborn.

For a time he lived in Garfield township north of Hawarden and also for many years farmed in the Ireton and Lebanon vicinity.

He is survived by the widow, Tillie (Hop) Brands and 14 children as well as a number of grandchildren. The six children who reside in California were unable to attend the funeral

John Dirksen, Father of Local Residents, Dies

Funeral services for John Dirksen, 76, of Sanborn, retired farmer who died Monday Oct. 13, at his home after a six week illness, were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Sanborn funeral home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed church there, Rev. Clifford Vander Ark officiated.

Mr. Dirksen was born March 4, 1882, in The Netherlands and the couple came to the United States and Sioux county in 1911.

Surviving are the widow; eight sons, Mike of George, Dick of Early, John of Rock Valley, Herman of Ireton, Jake, Henry and Art all of Artesia, Calif, and William of Redlands, Calif; six daughters, Mrs Jeanette Brands, Mrs Cornie De Ruyter and Mrs. Christine Hoekstra, all of Rock Valley, Mrs. Gerrit Anema and Mrs. Raymond Jensma, both of Artesia, Calif., and Mrs. Fred Anema of Sanborn. Also 65 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Herman of Doon and Dick living in The Netherlands, and a sister, also living in The Netherlands.
