Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Christian Reformed church in Rock Valley for John Brands who died Saturday in a Rock Valley nursing home at the age of 80. Officiating was the Rev. Paul Baker. Burial was in Valley View cemetery at Rock Valley.

John Brands was born April 8, 1895 in The Netherlands and came to the United States in 1913.

He married Gertie Otten at Rock Valley on February 23, 1922 and the couple farmed until retiring in 1960. She died in 1968.

Survivors include four sons, Gerrit and Albert, both of Rock Valley, William of Hull and Melvin of Boyden; two brothers, Henry of Inwood and Bert of Edgerton, Minnesota; and three sisters: Mrs. Arie Brouwer, Mrs. Joe Brouwer and Mrs. Gerrit Drooger, all of Edgerton; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
