Fred De Jong Obituary
Fred De Jong passed away at his home here Wednesday evening at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 22 days following an illness of over two years. He suffered a stroke and had been bedridden since. Fred De Jong was born at Oldevoren, Friesland, the Netherlands, September 26, 1871 and came to this country in 1892 and settled near Orange City later moving to the Sioux Center vicinity and then moving to the Rock Valley vicinity where the family have continued to live for the past 35 years.

He was united in marriage to Fannie Portier at Orange City March 2, 1899 by Rev. Vreen and to this union ten children were born all of whom survive their father except for son Herman who died during The summer of 1935. In March 1931 they moved into town to their present home where he spent his last days. Mr. De Jong was township trustee for many years. He became a member of the Rock Valley Creamery Company in 1918 when the company was formed and has served as president for 13 years of the organization having resigned in 1942 because of ill health. He was a member of the Christian Reformed church.

He leaves to mourn: his wife and nine children as follows: William of Rock Valley;. Minnie, Mrs. Bartel Boogerd of Hull; Alice,, Mrs. Ed Swier, Henry, all of Rock Valley; Winnie, Mrs. Case Visser of Rock Valley; Harriet, R. N., of Rock Valley at home; Anna, Mrs. Albert Brunsting.and Margaret Mrs. Albert Kooiker both of Doon and 41 grandchildren. He is-also., survived by one brother and two sisters and two sisters in the Netherlands.
