Mrs, James De Jong (nee’ Jantje ‘Jane’ Pas) died suddenly at her home three miles southeast of Maurice last Sunday. She had been ill for some time and early Sunday morning was taken with a severe attack which ended her life in a few hours.

Deceased was born in Marion county fifty five years ago and came to Sioux county in 1870 with her parents. She was married a few year later to James (Jacobus) De Jong. Of the children born to them there survive with the father Conrad, residing near the old home, Hubert and Fred and Harold at home, Mrs. P. Van Roekel and Mrs. John De Cok at Mauriceand two girls at home. Deceased leaves one brother George Pas of Mankato Minnesota and three sisters at Orange City namely MesdamesMarinus Rhynsburger; Arie VanderMeide, John Vande Steeg. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday by Revs. Peter Harmen of Maurice and J. F. Heemstra of Orange City.
