Rites Today For Young Alton Girl

The Christmas holidays were saddened for the Andrew Bouma family, their relatives and friends, by the fatal illness of their daughter Kathryn Gertrude, who passed from this life at the University Hospital in Iowa City December 30 at the age of 16 years and 3 months. She has been ill for only a few weeks with a serious skin infection and was taken to Iowa City for treatment Monday, December 24.

Kathryn was born on a farm south of Alton September 29, 1935. In childhood she attended the Christian School at Orange City. Later the family moved to Alton and she attended the Alton Public High School, from which she was to have graduated this coming May. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bouma and two brothers, Harold at home and Roy of Boyden; her grandmother, Mrs. Vander Wilt of Sibley, and two nieces.

Kathryn was a loving daughter and sister and was loved by many friends. She was sweet and kind with young children and was often called on as a reliable "baby sitter." She was devoted to her Church and Sunday School.

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church Thursday, January 3, in charge of the pastor, Reverend Hesselink.
