C. H. Winter died at the home of his son Claus, at Boyden Iowa on Wednesday January 10th 1912 of heart failure. He had just returned from a trip to Texas in search of health, when death claimed him. C. H. Winter was born in Hannover Germany on March 4th 1844. On June 16, 1869 he came to America and located in Winneshiek county. On Thursday June 16th 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Metta Leutjens. The ceremony was performed in Winneshiek county. This union was blessed with twelve children, four boys and eight girls, all of whom survive. In October 1871 Mr. and Mrs. Winter moved to Sioux County and took a homestead north of Boyden where he lived until his wife died, three years ago. Deceased cam to Sioux county when it was one vast stretch of unbroken prairie and lived to see it turned into the garden spot of the United States.

The funeral services were held on Saturday January 13th from the Evangelical Lutheran church and were conducted by Rev. W. Baetke. The funeral was largely attended. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery. Deceased is survived by twelve children four sons and eight daughters.
