Sioux County Herald March 22, 1893

On Tuesday of last week at the home of K. (and P) De Jong, two and a half miles east of town, occurred a peculiarly sad accident, which resulted in the death of its unfortunate victim. Butchering was being done at the time and Mrs. De Jong was carrying a kettle of scalding water out when her little son, (Anthony A.) aged five years, ran against her causing her to spill the water. The boiling fluid struck the child on the side and ran down his legs, burning them frightfully. His sufferings were intense and though every thing possible was done to relieve them, nothing could be done for him and on Thursday death ended his torture .

The funeral took place from the First Reformed church Saturday afternoon, Rev. J. F. Zwemer conducting the services. In their great grief Mr. and Mrs. De Jong have the sympathy of the entire community

(He died 16 Mar 1893 buried West Lawn Cemetery Orange City, Ia)
