Sioux County Capital July 28, 1988

Albert De Jager, 91, of Orange City, passed away Tuesday, July 19 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. Albert was born May 16, 1897 in Sioux County, the son of Peter De Jager and Nellie Swartz De Jager. He served in the United States Army during World War I. On Jan. 7, 1920, he married Henrietta Van Peursem at Maurice. They farmed near Maurice until 1954 when they retired into town. Mrs. De Jager passed away Nov. 26, 1977 at Orange City. Mr. De Jager was a member of the First Reformed Church of Maurice.

Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Peter (Leona) Van Maasdam of Westbrook, Minn.; a son, Paul, of Maurice; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; three brothers, William of Orange, Calif., Raymond of Maurice, and Elmer of Artesia, Calif., and a sister, Harriet Spinkelink of Boulder City, Nev. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Esther Johnson; four brothers, Harry, Andrew, Ed and Martin, and two sisters, Sadie Hooks and Grace Wiebersch.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 22, at the First Reformed Church of Maurice with the Rev. Kenneth Westrate officiating. Interment followed at Sherman Township Cemetery near Maurice, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
