Hawarden Independent April 3, 1930

Charles De Cook, aged 28, of Orange City, passed away March 16th as a result of burns received a short time ago. The burns did not heal and the young man did not realize the seriousness of his condition. A few days before his death he scratched his hand on a nail and infection set in. He was in business with his father, who operated a pool hall. Besides his parents he is survived by one brother, Richard of Milwaukee, Wis.
(In the 1925 census of Sioux County IA Charles is listed as a son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter DeCook, he was 22 years at the time. His father Peter was born Jan 1869 Iowa, mother Kate Versteeg 1874 -1954 Iowa.)
