IRETON, IOWA ~ Jack D. Ping, 92, of Ireton, Iowa died on Monday, June 27, 2016 at the Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital in Hawarden, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton, Iowa with Rev. Dave Daumer officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Bertram American Legion Post 276 of Ireton. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The Porter Funeral Home in Ireton is assisting the family.

Jack D. Ping was born July 1, 1923 near Peterson, Iowa, the son of Harry and Fern (Locke) Ping. He graduated from the Linn Grove High School in 1941. Jack served with the 9th Air Force, 318 Station from February 11, 1943 to November 7, 1945. He was in the European Theater and received 2 Bronze Stars.

Jack married Helen Reid September 2, 1945 at the St. Paul Lutheran Parsonage. From January of 1945 to his retirement in 1985 Jack owned and operated Jack’s Feed Store in Ireton. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he worked with the youth, and served as a trustee, secretary, and treasurer. He served on the Ireton City Council for 13 years. He was a director for NITC for 4 years, with the Iowa Grain and Feed Association for 3 years and for IGF Insurance Company in Des Moines for 10 years. Jack was also a member of the Ireton Bertram American Legion Post 276.

Jack and Helen travelled all around the world and he enjoyed camping, fishing, and golfing. Helen died on March 4, 2000.

Survivors include his son, Gary and wife Denice and daughter Sandy Iles all of Ireton; brother, Richard and wife Doris of Blunt, South Dakota; sister, Dorothy Roberts of Rapid City, South Dakota; grandchildren, Tracy Ping and wife Cassandra, Chad Ping and wife Gloria, Jeb Ping, Jessica Ping-Small and husband Jason, Shannon McCormick, and Cody Shipp; great-grandchildren, Hillary Ping, McKenzie Garcia, Mallory McCormick, Erika Shipp, Josh Johnson, Kari Halstenson, Jager King, Jack T. Ping, Ryan Ping, and Norah Small; great-great-grandchildren, Allison, Hannah, and Brylee Johnson, and Serenity Shipp.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen, and brother, Robert and his wife Beulah.
