Arnold Phillip Helseth, 97 of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2016 at Brule Creek Lutheran Church in rural Elk Point, South Dakota with Pastor Steve Martens officiating. A visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the Rexwinkel-Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Burial will be at Brule Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his 8 grandchildren: David Saugstad, Matt Saugstad, Andrea Saugstad, Lisa Hinkle, Lonny Jacobson, Nicole Offerdahl, Shelly Offerdahl, and Neal Offerdahl.

Arnold Phillip Helseth was born on June 28, 1919 in Spink, South Dakota to Lewis and Carrie (Anderson) Helseth. Arnold attended the Spink country school and following his education he began working full time on his father’s farm. He was united in marriage to Lois Anderson in Elk Point, South Dakota on September 12, 1942. Lois passed away in 1983. He lived and worked on the family farm until the age of 69, when he moved to Akron. After moving to town, he worked for a number of years at the Akron Elevator until his retirement. Arnold enjoyed bowling, baseball, playing pool and cards, especially pinochle. He also enjoyed traveling to visit his family in many different states. He was a very friendly and social man; enjoying conversation with everyone he met. He truly loved going to his morning coffee group at Joe’s Café and the Senior Citizen Center in Akron, Iowa.

Arnold is survived by 3 daughters: Sandra (Doug) Saugstad of Alcester, SD, Linette (Loren) Jacobson of Colorado Springs, CO, and Deanna (Larry) Offerdahl of McKinney, TX; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Lloyd Miller; nieces; nephews; cousin, Merlow Anderson; and many other relatives and friends.

Arnold is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Carrie (Anderson) Helseth; wife, Lois (Anderson) Helseth; sister, Milred (Frank) Michealosky; and brother, Lloyd (Maxine) Helseth.
