Sioux County Capital July 28, 1949

Edward De Bruin, 58, passed away at his home on July 21, 1949 after about two weeks serious illness. He became ill from the heat two years ago and has not been in good health since although he was able to work in Foppe's Grocery department most of the time.

Edward De Bruin was born at New, Holland, South Dakota on August 27, 1890. He came with his parents to Rock Valley as a baby and with the family lived in town for many years. For a short time the family lived in Michigan. In World War I he served overseas and was wounded in action. He was married to Francina Van Duyn on Nov. 5, 1919 at Rock Valley. After their marriage they lived away for about 13 years living at Sioux Falls, S. D., and Orange City. About 14 years ago they returned to Rock Valley and lived here since that time: Three children were born to the couple who are Anna (Mrs. Henry Ver Burg) of Sheldon; Wilma (Mrs. William Doverhof) of Cutlerville, Mich., and Cornelius of Grand Rapids, Mich. Besides his wife and children he is survived by four grandchildren, one brother, Leon, in Sunnyside, Wash, and one sister, Tillie (Mrs. Herman Oldenkamp) of Rock Valley. His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
