Sioux County Capital June 3, 1943

John De Bruin, a long time resident of Hospers passed away Thursday night at the Cherokee
Hospital. Funeral services were held at the home of his son, Ellis De Bruin in Hospers on Monday afternoon with Rev. G. Docter officiating. Interment was in the Hospers cemetery.

John De Bruin, was born Jan. 10, 1866 in Oregon. As a boy he moved to a farm in Sioux county with his parents. In 1897 he was 'united in marriage to Miss Hattie Hoeven. The young couple
moved to Hospers where he engaged in the implement business for many years.

Six children were born to this union Marie, Mrs. Lee Lautenbach of Des Moines; Edward of Omaha, Nebr.; Ellis of Hospers; William of Sioux Center and Eunice, Mrs. M. Ver Steeg of Sheldon. One son, John preceded his father in death. Besdies his wife and five children the deceased is survived by a brother Kryn De Bruin of Orange City as sister Mrs. Cornelia Bompaars of Middleburg and eight grandchildren.
