Born: August 1, 1869
Died: 1926

As mentioned in last week’s Bee, Albert Bonthuis passed away at his home northwest of Rock Valley, following an illness of several months.

Everything was done for him that medical skill and tender care could do. He went to California last fall in hopes that he might get relief there, but his condition was beyond earthly help. He came back home in a few weeks before his death.

Mr. Bonthuis was a public spirited man. He was prominent in the community where he lived, both in religious and in business circles. He was an active member in the First Reformed Church for more than thirty years, and during all this time he served as a member of the Board of the Church. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Rock Valley Creamery Company, since the Company has been organized.

He was highly esteemed by his neighbors and friends, and he will be greatly missed in this community.

Mr. Bonthuis was born in Chicago, August 1, 1869. He spent his early life there and at Roseland, Illinois, where he was engaged in truck gardening for a few years. He came to Rock Valley in February, 1894, and resided in this community for thirty-two years.

He was married March 1, 1894, to Tena Mulder. Nine children were born, one of them died in infancy. He leaves his wife and five sons and three daughters, Allen, Peter, Asa, Martin, and Fredrick, and Alice (Mrs. H.J. Vande Weerd), Dena and Dorothy, and seven grandchildren, also two brothers, Dr. F.A. Bonthuis and Dr. Andrew Bonthuis, and one sister, Mrs. Ralph Dykstra, Santa Ana, California. One brother, Asa Bonthuis died in 1895.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at one o’clock at the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley. The services were largely attended by sympathizing friends who came to pay their last respects to the departed.

The bereaved wife and children have the sincere sympathy of many friends.
