Mr. and Mrs. John G. De Boer were fatally injured and burned Wednesday noon about 12:30 when their car was hit from the rear. The accident happened about 5 ½ miles north of Luverne, MN, Mr. and Mrs. De Boer were returning from visiting their son Gossen and family at Holland MN when the accident occurred.
A farmer was burning brush in a field adjoining the road. The smoke obscured the visibility to such an extent that when Mr. De Boer slowed down, Katherine Winfouth of Fredonia Kansas, crashed into the rear of the De Boer car causing it to over torn and burn. Mr. and Mrs. De Boer were both burned beyond recognition and were identified from papers in Mr. De Boer’s wallet.
The Winfouth car was not damaged too extensively as can be seen on the picture on one of the inside pages of this issue. She was not injured seriously suffering facial injuries and body bruises.Mr. De Boer was born on Jan. 9, 1890 and Mrs. De Boer nee Julia Draayom, was born on Mar. 11, 1894. They were married on March 24, 1915 and were members of the American Reformed church at Hull IA.
Survivors in the immediate family are Gossen, farming near Holland MN; Julia, Mrs. Elmer Rock of Kingsley IA and Gerrit J. who is farming the home place a half mile east of Hull 'Mr. De Boer had a short time ago finished building a new home on the farm and was living there at the time of his death.
Tentative funeral arrangements were made for Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the" First Ref. Church of Hull.
