Funeral services for Mrs. Augusta De Boer, pioneer citizen of Alton who passed away at her home here early Thursday morning, will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at 2:00 o'clock at the First Reformed church at Alton.

Mrs. Augusta Kudolph De Boer was born January 26, 1858, in Germany, In the year 1869 she came to America with her parents in the month of June from the province Slav Dorph. They settled at Eldora, Iowa. She was married to Douwe De Boer of Ackley, Iowa, on March 13, 1876.

Following their marriage they came west, settling on a homestead two and one half miles southwest of Alton. Mrs. De Boer had been suffering for many months from a complication of diseases, and she passed away on July 6 at 12:30 a.m. at her home in Alton where she had resided for the past 23 years. Mr. and Mrs. De Boer were parents of one of Sioux County’s largest families, 17 children being born to them and all reaching maturity and becoming among the most responsible and respected citizens. Mr. De Boer passed away in Sept 1925. Three of the children, however, preceded her in death, Charles of Hull dying in March 1918; Gossen, also of Hull in Sep 1924 and Nellie, Mrs. William Vander Haar, in Nov 1927.

The 14 surviving children are a follows: Mrs. Gerrit Fredericks Ella of Steen MN; Mrs. John Smit Louise of Hull; Albert of Orange City; Cornelius of Sheldon; Mrs. Jake Kleinhesselink Emma of Boyden; Mrs. H. M. Scholten Minnie of Boyden: Mrs. J. E. Van Gorp Rocina of Hull; Douwe Alton; Mrs. J. Zwagerman Bertha of Hospers: Mrs. Neal Moss Mathilda of Hull; August of Alton; Mrs. Otto Rouwenhorst Tine of Orange City; Mrs. Henry Kamminga Elvina of Boyden; and Edward of Hospers. Mrs. De Boer is also surviving by 57 grandchildren and by 10 great grandchildren.

It pleased our Heavenly Father to take a mother and friend who will be sadly missed. She has led an active life. Her courage, principles and Christian character have influenced her splendid large family for years, and all who knew her.
