Robert Bomgaars, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence N. Bomgaars of three miles northeast of Sioux Center, was killed instantly about 7:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 11, when a tractor he was driving overturned, pinning him beneath the machine.

The accident occurred on the driveway at the family farm. The tractor was equipped with a new dirt scoop which Robert was trying out for the first time. He had loaded the scoop and had raised it above the tractor when the tractor tipped. He was crushed beneath the machine.

Dr. A.L. McGilvra was called to the scene and pronounced Robert dead upon examining him.

Robert graduated from Sioux Center Community High School in 1966. He was born in Sioux Center October 15, 1947, and was a lifelong resident of the community.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 P.M. today (Thursday) at the Central Reformed Church with the Reverend Albert Ten Clay officiating and burial will be in the Sioux Center Community Cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg’s Funeral Home.

Survivors besides his parents include two brothers, Roger and Clarence E., both at home; one sister, Marilyn, at home, and the grandparents, Mrs. Cora Bomgaars and Mr. and Mrs. John Poppen, all of Sioux Center.
