Joseph Bunkers died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Bunkers, northwest of Granville on Saturday November 18th following an operation for appendicitis which was performed on November 13th. Deceased was born in Granville on Wednesday January 18th 1888 and he was therefore nearly 24 years old when cruel death came. Joseph Bunkers was a popular young man. His kindly ways and friendly disposition had made him many friends, and he will be missed, not only in the home but by a large number of sorrowing friends as well.

The funeral services were held from St. Joseph’s church at Granville on Tuesday November 31st. The services were conducted by Rev G. A. Gerleman. Interment was made in St. Joseph’s cemetery at Granville. Six brothers acted as pall bearers. Deceased is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Bunkers, and the following brothers and sisters – Henry and John of Dell Rapids SD, Tone of Madison MN, and Emila and Otto at home, and Mrs. John Graff of Granville and Clara, Lenora, Lizzie and Edmunds at home. Mr. and Mrs. H. Bunkers, Mr. and Mrs. Barney Bunkers, Mr. and Mrs. Theo Bunkers, Mr. and Mrs. Reker, Mrs. J. Schulty and Mrs. Deltering of Remsen, Mrs. Rounglut and Mrs. Richard O’Conner of Waterloo and many friends from Hospers and Alton attended the funeral.
