Death: October 23, 1997Hendrika "Reka" Boersma, 80, formerly of Hospers died Thursday, October 23, 1997 at the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, October 25 at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Hospers. The Reverend Brian Hanssen officiated. Burial was held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in the Hospers Cemetery under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home, Hospers.
Hendrika was born April 9, 1917 in Bennekom, The Netherlands, the daughter of Johannes Bernardus Henrikus and Elizabeth (Heemsbergen) Van Rennes.
She came to the United States with her parents in 1920 and settled near Sioux Center, later moving to Hospers.
She married Herman "Bob" Boersma on March 21,1939 in Hospers. The couple farmed near Hospers. Mr. Boersma died June 10, 1976.
Mrs. Boersma was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Richard and Lyn of Lyons, Colorado, and Michael and Rolane of LaMirada, California; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Danny Eichblatt of Alice, Texas; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret De Bruin of Sioux Center.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ron; four brothers, John, Richard, Tony and Hank; and three sisters, Elizabeth, Nell and an infant sister.
