Herman Boer, 73, was found dead at his home in Rock Valley Saturday afternoon, July 21. He is believed to have died the previous day of an apparent heart attack. He was single and lived alone. They body was discovered by his sister and brother-in-law who became alarmed when he didn't answer the phone.

He was born near Lebanon, Iowa, on April 21, 1900, and attained the age of 73 years and almost three months.

Services were held Monday, July 23, at the Porter Funeral Home with Reverend James Admiral officiating.

Herman had farmed most of his life. He is survived by two sister, Effie, Mrs. Joe Smeenk, of Orange City, and Ella, Mrs. Hubert Loverink of Rock Valley, and nieces and nephews.

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Boer, Sr., and three brothers preceded him in death: Henry in 1930--Raymond in 1966--and John in 1972. Herman's mother was the former Lizzie Travaille.

The pallbearers were: Harold Boer, John Loverink, Oscar De Boer, Gerald Brands, Orwen De Boer, and Harold L. Boer.
