Hawarden Independent June 20, 1968

Funeral services for Miss Anne L. Dawson, 77, longtime resident of Hawarden and vicinity,
were held Monday, June 17, at 2:00 p. m. at the Methodist church in Hawarden with Rev. G. S. Bruland officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery under the direction of Dow Funeral Home.
Mrs. Don Hummel served as organist and Mrs. Rod Wilbeck sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere"
and "The Lord's Prayer." Casket bearers were Charles Gourley, Charles Dawson, Donald Gothier, William Morgan, Arthur Swanson, and Wilbur Dixon.

Miss Dawson died Friday, June 14, at the Sunrise Manor in Sioux City, where she had lived the past six years. She was born April 21, 1891, in Union county, South Dakota, a daughter of Charles and Ellenor Dawson. She attended Hawarden high school and Dakota Wesleyan University at Mitchell, South Dakota. She taught school before taking nurse's training at St. Luke's hospital in Chicago where she received her R. N. degree. During the following years she held positions in Rockford, Illinois; Seattle, Washington; Washington, D. C.; New York City, and at St. Luke's in Chicago, After her retirement, she returned to Hawarden to live with her mother. After her mother's death in 1956, Miss Dawson moved to Sioux City.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Viva Marshall of Doon, Iowa, and Miss Laura Dawson of Pompano Beach, Florida, and one brother, John Dawson of Hawarden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Charles.
