From the Alton Democrat, January 29, 1916: Sheldon news:

An esteemed resident of west Sheldon, in the person of Mrs. John Christiany, passed to her eternal reward on Thursday morning of last week, after having been for many months a victim of dropsy. All that was done to relieve her suffering proved unavailing, and death therefore came as a welcome relief from pain and other physical disabilities.

Mrs. Christiany was a native of Luxemburg, Germany and in her young womanhood was united in marriage to John Christiany, who preceded her to eternity five years ago. A son, Joseph, did not long survive his father. The living members of the family are, Mrs. Mary Christiany Daniels of the vicinity of Glenwood, Minn.; Miss Lucile of Sheldon, and Peter, Edward and Frank, also of the city.

Father Dries conducted impressive funeral services on Saturday morning at St. Anthony's church at Hospers, after which all that was mortal was consigned to its long slumber in that town's Catholic cemetery, where other loved ones rest. In the death of Mrs. Christiany the bereaved, children, friends and relatives have the sincere sympathy of local residents, by whom the lady was held in deservedly exalted esteem.
