John Blatt died July first at the home of his brother, N.J. Blatt, near Granville, from a complication of diseases. He was 69 years, 8 months and 20 days of age at the time of his death.

Deceased was born at Palzam, Germany October 11, 1859, coming to the United States in 1882 and to O’Brien County in 1887 to take up farming. He was a member of the St. Joseph society of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church here. Funeral services were held July 3 at 9 A.M., at St. Joseph’s Church, Reverend J.A. Geriemann officiating and interment was made at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were Nick Didier, Joseph Blatt, Math and William Blatt, Frank and Anton Hoefter. Among those from a distance who were there to attend the funeral Mr. And Mrs. Peter Schual and son John of Roswell. South Dakota: Theo. Lelpeig and son Nicholis of Chicago.

He leaves to mourn his death one brother, Nick J. Blatt, of Granville and one sister, Mrs. Peter Schaul of Roswell, South Dakota; also thirteen nieces, three of whom are member of the holy order. Sister Florencia, St. Francis convent of Joliet, Illinois. Sister Irmina and Novice Philomen of St. Benedict at Clyde, Missouri: also nine nephews, besides a host of friends in this community.
