Mrs. Matilda Newendorp, age 94, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

There will be a funeral service on Monday, May 2, at 11:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Michael Hardeman will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be the hour before the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Matilda was born on July 15, 1921, on a farm near Boyden the daughter of Gerrit and Elizabeth (Siebersma) Kroeze. Her family moved to a farm near Sandy Hollow and later to a farm near Orange City. She attended a country school and graduated from the Orange City Christian School.

On June 10, 1949, she married Robert John Newendorp in Orange City where they made their home. “Tillie” worked at the local drug store for several years, until they purchased the Pantry Café in Orange City. They had a successful coffee business with many friends supporting them. In later years, she worked at K-Products in Orange City, until retirement. “Bob” passed away on June 13, 1989, in Orange City, after more than forty years of marriage.

Mrs. Newendorp was a member of the American Reformed Church in Orange City. She was a kind and friendly lady who enjoyed being with family and friends.

Survivors include her sister, Elizabeth Vande Berg, of Arizona; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Kroeze, of Orange City; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Jennie De Haan, Lucy Jeltema-Faber, Wilma Fedders, and Gertrude Vink-Wiersma; and two brothers, Steve Kroeze and Gary Kroeze.
