Ida De Haan, 96, of California, formerly of Sioux Center, Iowa passed away May 5, 2016 in California.

Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2017 at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, Iowa. Reverend Roger Voskuil will officiate. Arrangements are with the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Ida De Haan was born on October 16, 1919 in Rock Valley, Iowa. At the age of 22 she married John Albert De Haan. Two years later they had a son, Henry Jay and lived on a farm in Newkirk until 1961 when they moved to Sioux Center. Ida then began working at Casey’s Bakery. Her husband died in 1970 and in 1971 she moved to California to be closer to her son. She worked at the Artesia Christian Home until retirement.

Ida will be remembered for her kindness she brought to her family, friends and the community. Her love was her family, and she found great joy in baking and gardening. She always had the best recipes. On Sundays the grandkids couldn’t wait to see what grandma had baked. She was known for her African violets and the most beautiful flowers growing in her garden. She had a special place in her heart for the hummingbirds that frequented her flowers.

Ida was a giving woman. She spent countless hours doing needlepoint towels and crocheting for the Ladies Aid Society she belonged to. She spent many days after retirement volunteering at the Artesia Christian Home. Her memory will live in all of our hearts forever.

She leaves behind her son, Henry and his wife of 49 years, Coby, 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John De Haan.
