Rock Valley, IA: John D. Hoekstra, 71, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died suddenly Monday, June 6, 2016 as the result of an accident near Thompson, Iowa. Funeral service will be Thursday, June 9, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley. Burial will be prior at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation with the family present will be Wednesday, June 8, at Trinity CRC from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to Hope Haven.

John D. Hoekstra, son of Charles and Christina (Dirksen) Hoekstra, was born December 24, 1944 at Hudson, South Dakota. John was united in marriage with Millie Voortman on March 17, 1964 at Carmel, Iowa. Together the couple made their home in Rock Valley, Iowa where John worked as a floor covering installer for over 40 years. John was an early morning riser and enjoyed several cups of coffee to get the day started. He was a “fixer” and could fix anything or at least make an attempt to fix it. John was known around his family as “Flash” because he did everything fast, including eating his meals quicker than anyone. John enjoyed golfing, fishing, being on the boat, but most of all he loved the time he would spend with his children and grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife, Millie; children, Pam (Mike) Heyser of Belton, Missouri; Cindy Hoekstra of Rock Valley; Todd (Kristi) Hoekstra of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Chad (Vicki) Hoekstra of Canton, South Dakota; 4 grandchildren, Alissa; Dalton; Collin; and Miley; two brothers, Charles G. (Twilla) Hoekstra of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and Greg (Kendra) Hoekstra of Lafayette, Indiana; two sisters, Arlene (Bill) Dufner of Mesa, Arizona; and Twyla Anderson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; four stepbrothers, Tony (Joanne) Jansma of Sioux Falls; Harold Jansma of Estelline, South Dakota; Andy (Toni) Jansma of Des Moines, Iowa; and Dick (Carla) Jansma of Rock Valley; two stepsisters, Eleanor (Marvin) Vonk of Rock Valley, and Doris (Arnie) Timmer of Ellsworth, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers-in-law, Neal Anderson and Don Vander Vegt.
