Feekes, Theodore "Ted" Hubert 1920-2016

Theodore 'Ted' Hubert Feekes, the son of Gradus and Rena (Vanden Hul) Feekes, was born November 28, 1920, in Sioux Center, Iowa where he attended Christian and Public Schools. Following his schooling, he attended welding classes in Lake View, Iowa. He entered the military and served in the Army in Fort Lewis, WA in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945.

On September 30, 1943, Theodore married Ida Fae Slough in Peterson, Iowa. Ted was then sent to serve in the European Theatre during WWII. After returning from the war, he returned to Peterson, Iowa and purchased the local blacksmith shop. His business expanded to include sales of farm equipment, selling fertilizer, feed and custom farm work. Originally known as Ted's Shop, the business was later changed to the Feekes Farm Center when his son Al joined the business.

Ted belonged to the Dean-Underwood Post #10, where he was a past Commander and an active member for over 70 years. He was a charter member of the Peterson Lion's Club, was on the Peterson School Board and was a longtime member of the Peterson United Methodist Church.

He started his Ferguson Dealership in 1950 and sold Ferguson/Massey Ferguson Tractors for several years. He was a charter member of the Ferguson Enthusiasts of North America. Ted attended the national conventions for the last 15 years. Recently he was honored by the French Government for his service in France during WWII.

Theodore passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center on Friday, May 13, 2016, at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Fae on April 23, 1999; brothers: George and Robert; sister, Matilda and sister-in-law, Elsie Mae Brown.

He is survived by one daughter and husband, Linda (Feekes) & Dennis Wharton of Redding, CA; three sons and their wives: Allan & Denise Feekes of Peterson, IA, Donald & Debra Feekes of Wichita, KS and Michael & Denice Feekes of Slater, IA; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Winnie Scholten of Steen, MN; one brother, Gerrit and Marie Feekes of Avoca, IA; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Feekes of Sheldon, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Peterson.
