Mrs. John F. Berger (Katie Schuett), was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, October 5, 1972, to John H. and Margerite Schuett, and was baptized in their Church.

As a girl she moved to a farm near Sheldon, Iowa, with her parents. At the age of 14 she was confirmed in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. In 1893 she as united in marriage to John F. Berger of Doon, Iowa.

To this union one son and five daughters were born--one daughter Henrietta passed away at the age of 5 years, 5 months, and 15 days, on March 21, 1916.

In 1908 they moved to a farm near Boyden; in 1910 they moved to Amherst, South Dakota, where they lived until 1918 when they moved to a farm near Lake City, South Dakota. Here they lived until Mr. Berger passed away November 3, 1930. She carried on, on the farm for eight years and then went to live with her children in South Dakota and Iowa, and her son Oscar moved on the home place, where she passed away September 11, 1944, after an illness of two years in hospitals and at the homes of her children.

She leaves to mourn her passing, one son, Oscar Berger of Lake City, South Dakota; four daughters, Dorothea Litch of Havana, North Dakota, Ella Hollander of Boyden, Iowa, Alma Roehr of Britton, South Dakota, and Marie Elkamp of Havana, North Dakota. Also 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Maggie Hollander of Hull, Iowa, and Elisie Hollander of Doon, Iowa, and two brothers, Henry Schuett of Hull, Iowa and Herman Schuett of Sheldon, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
