John Frederick Berger was born October 12, 1863, in Husum, Germany, and died at the age of 67 years, and 22 days.

He came to America with his parents when nine years old, settling near Davenport, Iowa. In 1893, on October 25th, he was united in marriage to Kate Schuett of Hull, Iowa. They settled in Doon, Iowa, where he was in business. To this union one son and five daughters were born.

In 1910, he moved with his family on a farm near Amherst, South Dakota, where they lived for seven years, then moving on a farm near Lake City, South Dakota, where he resided until his death.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and one son, Oscar of Lake City, South Dakota; Mrs. Dorothea Litch of Britton, South Dakota; Mrs. Ella Hollander of Elkton, South Dakota; Mrs. Alma Roehr of Britton, South Dakota; and one daughter, Henrietta, who preceded him in death, 20 years ago, and two brothers and four sisters.

A funeral sermon was held at the St. John Lutheran Church of Britton, South Dakota, before shipping the body to Hull for burial.

Funeral services were conducted in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church northeast of Hull by Reverend A Hein of Boyden, Iowa, and interment was made in the cemetery near the church on November 5th.
