Pioneer Resident Of Rock Valley Dies At California Home

Mary H. Schlund, widow of the late John J. Schlund, died Jan. 21, 1956 at the age of 96. Mary Huidelbrink was born 1859 at Brownsville. December 13, 1879 she married the late John J. Schlund and they lived near Qauzeka, Wisc, until 1885. About a year after that they moved to Rock Valley where they bought prairie land from the railroad company for a farm, which is now operated by the Siebolt Faber family. Except for one year spent at Whapeton, N. D., they lived here until 1912, while in Rock Valley, John Shlund was president of the State Bank of Rock Valley which is now known as the Valley State Bank. In 1912 they moved to California and in 1914 planted an orange grove near Anaheim, Cal. She has made her home in California since. Preceding her in death were her oldest daughter, Elsie Schlund, her husband, and her only son, Clarence.

Those surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Emma Buckley of Lexington, Ky., Mrs. Esther Hannah and Mrs. Marion Lindsey of Garden Grove, Cal., six grandchildren, Mrs. Ramona Letze of Garden Grove,. Dr. John Schlund of Whittier, Paul Schlund of Moses Lake. Mrs. Mary Worthy of ???? Mrs. Barbara Kaufman of Ky. and Clyde Schlund of Anaheim and 12 great grandchildren.
