Arthur W. "Tarz" Bergsma, 73, of Rock Valley died Wednesday, December 3, in a hospital in Rock Valley.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 6, in Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley. The Reverend Ron Johnson officiated. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.

Bergsma was born November 26, 1913, in Sioux County. He attended rural schools in Sioux County and Washington High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He graduated from Rock Valley Community High School. On May 20, 1941, he married Bernice Ross in Pipestone, Minnesota. He served in the U .S. Navy from May 1942 to September 1945.

After the service, the couple lived in Rock Valley, where he was in the lumber business for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mavis Kacena of Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Edwin M. of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Earl R. of Perm Valley, California, and two grandchildren.
