Geo. Godfrey passed away at his home in Matlock on Tuesday July 25th 1911 at 12 o'clock A. M. He had suffered for a number of years with this dreadful disease, consumption and therefore death came as a great relief. Mr. Godfrey was almost 39 years of age. He was born in Park's Square, Bristol, England in 1872, in 1892 he was united in marriage of Miss Margaret Harms at Beloit Wisconsin. This union was blessed with nine children, seven of whom are living.

In 1888 Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey moved to Iowa establishing their first home here in Matlock.
Deceased lived in this community for a number of years and was a sturdy mason most of the time, until a year ago when consumption forced his retirement and death claimed its victim. He was respected and widely known among Sioux county citizens. He was a faithful husband, a considerate parent and had a cheerful word for all of his fellowmen.

Deceased is survived by a grief stricken wife, who has been his constant companion and patient helpmeet through weal and woe up to the present time. The surviving children are also called upon to mourn at this time. They are; Edward, John, Anna, Jennie, Ruth and Geneva. He is also survived by one lonely sister residing here in Matlock.

The funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon from the Baptist church conducted by Rev. J. E. Rolston. The funeral was one of the largest ever witnessed in Matlock, the procession consisting of 55 teams which followed the remains to the Matlock cemetery. The pall bearers were: O. Heikens, H. Sohl, H. Meester, Chas. Roskom, F. Bissel and D. King. Matlock joins in extending a hand of heartfelt sympathy to the relatives and near friends of the deceased.
