J. Cleveringa died at his home here last Saturday afternoon after an illness of several months. Deceased was sixty-one years of age and had suffered with asthma for a long time. Mr. Cleveringa was born in the Netherlands and came to this country in 1871 and lived at Muscatine for several years. He then came to this county, residing in the vicinity of Sioux Center, Maurice and Middleburg and later moving to Orange City where he spent the last years of his life.

He is survived by a widow and eight children: Mrs. H. Baartman of Hull, Mrs. R. Bloemendaal, Miss Jacoba and Gerben of this place, Mrs. H. Roghair of Sibley, Abraham of Chicago, Nicolas of Boyden, and Roelof of Ireton. The funeral was held on Tuesday, the services being conducted by Rev. Timmermann.

(According to a family history on ancestry, Jacob’s wife was Hiske De Vries He was born 8 Apr 1851 De Marne Netherlands, married 23 Jan 1877 Orange City, IA . His parents were Roelf Klaasen Cleveringa and Aaltje Jacobs Alderts.)
