Mrs. Jacob Cleveringa- Was One of Very Early Settlers at Sioux Center

Mrs. Jacob Cleveringa, aged 73, died suddenly on June 12, 1925 after only a week's illness from pneumonia, an illness, which had not been considered serious up to the last day of her life.

The funeral was held on Monday, June 15, with Rev, Van Wyk officiating at tbe home and Rev. Mongma at the Chr. Ref church. Burial was at the Orange City cemetery;

Mrs. Cleveringa (Hiske De Vries) was born in the Netherlands, coming to America and to Sioux County in the i870s. She was married to Jacob Cleveringa who preceded her to the Beyond 13 years ago. They first lived at Old Sioux Center, the only settlement there at that time, and had the postoffice in their home. One brother, Gerben, still lives at Sioux Center, her only surviving brother and no sisters survive.

Eight children survive their parents. They are Ralph of Orange City , Mrs. Herman Bartman (Tryntje) of
Rock Valley; Abe, professor at Grundy Center; Mrs. Ralph Bloemendaal; (Alice) of Orange City; Nick of Hospers; Gerben of Sheldon ; Mrs. Henry Roghair (Cornelia }of SD.

(According to an ancestry.com account (sources by others) She was the daughter of Abe Gerbens De Vires 1814-1901 and Cornelike Wiegers de Groot 1813-1894.)
