Daniel Scott was born on October 9, 1962, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the son of John and Audrey Mae (Heemstra) Landegent. He was raised in Sioux Falls, where he graduated from Lincoln High School. He then attended and graduated from Northwestern College in Orange City, and he served in the United States Air Force.

Dan moved to Moorhead, Minnesota, where he received a fine arts degree and became a graphic designer. He then moved to Edgerton, Minnesota, working at Fey Industries, and then moved to Orange City, where he was employed at K-Products. Dan also worked at Wells Enterprises in Le Mars and most recently, in the maintenance department of Northwestern College.

On July 11, 2001, Dan married Nancy Siebersma in Orange City, where they made their home.

Dan was an active member of the First Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon on the consistory, was a member of the sanctuary and bell choirs, participated in praise and ministry teams, presented skits for the Sunday school, and provided instrumental music for evening worship services.

He was also active in the Orange City Tulip Festivals, especially the night shows and playing the accordion for street dances.

Dan loved music and sharing that talent with his wife, accompanying her on the piano and also playing four-hand pieces with her at church services. He enjoyed playing games of all kinds, often sitting at the kitchen table playing Canasta with Nancy. They shared the challenge of puzzles and crosswords, listening for different bird songs, and looking at the stars on clear nights.

Dan liked to study people and find their “funny bone”. He enjoyed making people laugh with a dry little comment or corny joke. He liked creating things, such as homemade Christmas ornaments or painting a scene on a camping trip. Dan loved cookies and bars, always taking a few extra cookies, if they were available, and telling Nancy, “I ate one for you, too.” He was never afraid of delving into something new and learning more things, always sharing those new discoveries with the love of his life, Nancy.

Survivors include his wife of more than fourteen years; his mother, Audrey Landegent, of Sioux Falls; two brothers and their wives, The Rev. David and Ruth A. Landegent, of Volga, South Dakota; and Dale and Ruth E. Landegent, of Sioux Center; Nancy’s family, her parents, JR and Audrey Siebersma, of Orange City; and her two brothers and three sisters and their spouses, James and Patty Siebersma, of Urbandale; Charlotte and Robert Iske, of Gretna, Nebraska; Janice Noto, of Omaha, Nebraska; Donna and Bill Klein, of Orange City; and Jeffrey and Dureen Siebersma, of San Antonio, Texas; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father.

Memorials may be directed to Project 78 at the church or Northwestern College.
