Guy Charbbonno a victim of Winter’s cold blast
Was found in Railway Yards Tuesday Evening So Severely Frozen that Death Resulted

Guy Charbbonno, lifelong resident of Hawarden was found badly frozen and near death, in the North Western Railway yards in this city about 9:30 Tuesday evening Way Freight No. 61 from Sioux City had pulled into the yards some time before and E. W. Mason of Sioux City, one of the brakemen, came up town for a cup of coffee. On his way back to the train, perhaps a half hour later, he heard a moan and upon investigation found Mrs. Charbbonno lying between two nearly parallel tracks some distance east of the round house. He hurried to the depot for help and Night marshal Joe Bryson accompanied him back to the spot. They secured a stretcher from the round house and Jack Mc Manaman who is employed there, assisted in carrying him to the deport and Dr. F. F. Null perceived the he was in a critical condition and telephoned for an ambulance to convey him to the hospital but he expired a few minutes later before the ambulance arrived. His ears, Hands and feet were badly frozen.

How long he had been exposed to the elements has not been determined. The night was bitterly cold and it would have required but a short time for his limbs to freeze as he lay on the ground. It is presumed that he stumbled and fell while walking through the yards and had either been rendered unconscious or was unable to get up after falling. Mr. Mason, the brakeman, felt quite sure that he first left the train to come up town. There was no evidence that he been struck by the train.

Coroner Chas. Vander Ploeg of Sioux Center was notified and he came to Hawarden at once to investigate, arriving about 11 o’clock. After making a thorough check he concluded the an inquest was not necessary unless there was a request for same, but no such request was made. He attributed his death to being chilled through exposure and to intoxication. No definite explanation was advanced as to how he happened to be in the railway yards at that time of night. He made his home with his parents in Hawarden and left the house about 10 o’clock Tuesday morning and had not returned although he had been observed about town at various times throughout the day.

Guy Charbbonno was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Charbbonno, long time residents of this city and community. He was born in Hawarden Mary 28, 1895, so was past 43 years of age. As a young man he was employed for a time as a passenger brakeman on the Dakota division of the North Western line but since then, when employed, worked at the barber trade, being employed at various time in different Hawarden barber shops. Besides his father and invalid mother, he is survived by two sons, Dr. Paul Charbbonno, 22, a dentist at Devel’s Lake ND, and Merle 21 who makes his home with his mother at Huron SD, from whom Mr. Charbbonno was separated.

Funeral services will be held in the Ross funeral Home in Hawarden at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon and interment will be made in Grace Hill cemetery, His two sons are expected
