From the Alton Democrat, October 18, 1913: Boyden news:

Mrs. Metta Maria Adelheid Riebling, a resident of Sheridan township, passed away at the Rock Valley hospital last Saturday, October 11th, at two o'clock in the afternoon, at the age of sixty years, eight months and twenty-five days. She had been in poor health for some time. She was born January 16th, 1853, at Langenstrasse, Harmover [Hanover], Germany. She came to the United States and settled in Sioux county in 1886. In 1887 she became the wife of Andrias Riebeling, who has preceded her to the spirit world. Four children were born to this union, Mrs. August Soehl of Boyden, Peter Riebeling of Hull, John Riebeling of Elkton, S.D., and Henry Riebeling of Hull Iowa. She is also survived by two brothers and a sister, Mrs. Metta Goetsch of Echo, Minn., August Werner of Luedingworth, Harmover, Germany, and Peter Reyelts of Rock Rapids Iowa. She was a devout member of the Evangelical Lutheran church and highly regarded by all who knew her. The funeral services were conducted from St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church of Lincoln township on Tuesday, October 14th, and interment was made in the Lincoln township cemetery.

OBITUARY

Mrs. Metta Riebling nee Reyelts was born the 16th of January 1853 at Langenstrasse, Hanover, Germany. Her parents were Claus Reyelts and his wife Metta Werner. She was baptized the 30th of January 1853 at Tomfohrde and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church at Cadenberge in the old country. Mrs. Riebling came to America in 1886. She was married to Andreas Riebling in 1887 and about 20[?] years ago they moved to their farm in Lincoln township, where they built up their home with industry and assiduity. Mrs. Riebling had three children of her own, two sons and one daughter, and one stepson. Her husband died about four years ago.

Mrs. Riebling has had much trouble with rheumatism, about three years and a half ago she suffered an apoplectic attack, since which time she never became very strong. Three weeks ago she began to get weaker, she wished for and received the Lord's Supper the 23rd of September. Two weeks ago they took her for better care and attendance to Dr. Huizenga's hospital in Rock Valley. At first she seemed to feel better, but on Thursday evening paralysis set in and rendered her very weak and unconscious. She passed away the 11th of October 1913 at 2 o'clock a.m. at the age of 60 years 8 months and 25 days.

The surviving mourners are her daughter Mrs. August Soehl, her sons Peter and John Riebling, her stepson Henry Riebling, her son-in-law August Soehl, her daughter-in-law Metta Riebling, eight grandchildren, her brother Peter Reyelts of Rock Rapids, her sister Metta Goetsch of Echo, Minnesota, Claus Reyelts of Fraze, Minnesota, whom she took care of after the early death of her sister, a half brother August Werner of Luidingworth, Hanover, Germany and a sister-in-law Mrs. Peter Meyn of Boyden Iowa.

St. Luke 19:10, "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." This is the text of the sermon that Rev. P. J. Bunge preached, when the funeral services were held in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church last Tuesday October 14th. The Messrs. Henry Schoeneman, Henry Tiedeman, John Jantzen, Claus Ahders, Henry Breuer and Claus Schoenemann were pall-bearers. Those from outside present were: John Riebling of Bucknall, South Dakota, Peter Reyelts [two lines obscured by a blot] Reyelts of Frazer, Minnesota, and Peter Meyn of Boyden.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Riebeling, Martha, 1913, ss Alfred, St Pauls Luth Cem Hull IA. It is unclear whether or not this is intended to be the same person. All of the other surnames for this family in the index are also spelled Riebeling.
